Their is a new Science museum here in the great state of Georgia. We have been excited to get the chance to go and got our opportunity when my homeschool group put it on the calender this year. My husband, the earth science teacher at a Private Christian school, was also very excited to go, so he took the day off his earth science teaching to come join his little homeschool students at the museum.
It was pretty cool. Dinosaurs(probably the most anticipated of the features), dinosaur bones, dinosaur teeth, even dinosaur POOP! What can be better for boys 4, 6 and 28! They also had a mineral gallery, my husbands favorite part. I think he sat and stared at some of those minerals for more than the children would have liked. He loves a good mineral, especially just following his caving trip he took with his 8th graders on to finish up his mineral series. Then there was the science in motion section, with old cars, planes, helicopters, trains and much more.
We went to the planetarium and saw "The Mystery of the Christmas Star." We weren't sure what it was going to be about, and we had a feeling we might have to explain some things after to the children about what God says, and about how scientists sometimes think. But, thankfully, they did a pretty good job of sharing their thoughts, views and theories without taking away or trying to explain away the fact that it very well could be a miracle of God and their is no science to explain that. Isabelle didn't sit as still as we had hoped, but Addison and James seemed to really enjoy the experience.
The best part was the completely hands on "My Big Back Yard" section designed especially for the children we have. They had a blast running from thing to thing to thing to thing, trying it, touching it, making it be loud and learning to enjoy the wonders of this earth.
I loved watching ALL my boys (including my biggest one) really get excited about all things science and can see that my little girl will be following suit soon.
